Zollinger-ellison Syndrome

Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is a rare condition in which tumours (gastrinomas), usually in the pancreas or the duodenum, release a hormone that drives the stomach to make far too much acid, causing severe and repeated ulcers. It is diagnosed and managed by specialists.

Treatment

Acid-lowering medicines control the symptoms; famotidine (Pepcid) is one of them. The tumours themselves are assessed and, where possible, removed by a specialist team.
